What it is
TSLR stands for Town Survey Land Register. Areas brought under the town survey scheme — typically municipal and other built-up areas — are mapped and numbered separately from the rural ryotwari system, using a town survey (TS) number and ward instead of a rural survey number and village. The TSLR is the register behind those TS numbers, and produces two documents buyers actually encounter: the TSLR extract, a descriptive record akin to patta-chitta, and the TSLR sketch, a dimensioned map akin to an FMB sketch.
Why it matters when you buy
If a property sits inside a town-survey area, the rural patta-chitta record and FMB sketch simply don't apply to it — you need the TSLR extract and TSLR sketch instead, and both are referenced against the TS number, not a rural survey number. A seller who quotes a rural survey number for what is actually town-survey property, or who cannot produce a TS number at all, is worth questioning closely before you go further.

TSLR extracts and sketches are available for their respective TS numbers through eservices.tn.gov.in, mirroring how patta-chitta records and FMB sketches are served for rural survey numbers. Confirm with the seller, or the local Sub Registrar's office, which register system — town survey or rural survey — actually applies to the property before requesting either document.
